June 40% NSDs

July 2nd, 2008 at 04:32 am

June was 40% NSDs... this is lower than April and May but still pretty good. Can't think of a reason why it should be lower....

My average daily discretionary spend in June was Eur 15.14. This is also higher than April and May. April was about 11 Eur and May about 8 Euro. So it is a big increase. Yet I feel I wasn't a whole lot less frugal in June than in April/May. Obviously I was tho.

The only thing I can point to is that halfway thro May I started buying US dollars for my Peru trip in 2009. I buy $150 dollars every fortnight(payday) for approx Eur 99. So that adds Eur 200 to my monthly spend which is Eur 6.67 per day in June. That makes sense !!

I've thinking about a new discretionary spending plan:

At the start of the month, I give myself Eur10 for every day in the month in cash. Then every day I don't spend the full 10 I can add it on to upcoming days so I can treat myself if I wish. I might try it out in August.

Great job on the NSD's. My son is going to Peru in August; he is taking six weeks off from his work and going there hiking. I'm kind of worried about him; he is joining two other friends there. I don't know enough about South America to know if it is safe there. Mothers never stop worrying about their children.

Lost in Debt, you can go to the US State Dept web site and they offer information about safety in other countries and even areas in a country to avoid. Like Mexico in general is safe, but there is one state that has rebel problems that the US State Dept will tell you to avoid due to violence.

Don't worry I'm sure you son will be fine & have a great time !! You'll probably worry no matter where he goes !!

My trip is still 9 months away so I havn't completed my researc yet but I havn't heard anything so far about Peru being dangerous.

Since your son is not travelling alone and will be with 2 friends, I think you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

He'll just need to check whether he needs any vaccinations (I havn't checked this myself yet)... I don't think Peru is a "dangerous" place disease-wise. He'll also need to make sure he has travel/medical insurance (like for any foreign travel).

i'm brining my mom to Ireland in November for a week to 10 days.

Anything you think we should not miss? We know we can't see the whole place (won't even try) but are trying to determine where to go and how many days in places. I know your not a tour guide but your the best thing here! I'd love to chat as we get closer if we could about questions I have.

Hi ... of course you can ask me any questions you wish.

    Just a few preliminay points:

In November there is a 50% chance of the weather being wet and cold & a 50% chance of it raining one day and sunny the next. Our climate is very changeable during the winter. Although we never reach the extremes of heat and cold you get in the US. Be prepared however for rain and cold (not below zero hopefully).

Dublin is basically like any capital city. I'd only spend 2/3 days there max.

To taste the real Ireland travel to the West - Galway, Sligo, Donegal etc. The South is beautiful also and has a substantial tourist industry... places like Kerry (the ring of Kerry etc).

The weather really will either make or break your holiday. In good weather, Ireland's West & South can match anywhere for natural beauty but in bad weather it can be plain old miserable !!

Feel free to ask my any questions you wish !!
